Tri-County Regional Jail

Union County does not run its own jail. People arrested in the county go to the Tri-County Regional Jail at 4099 State Route 559, Mechanicsburg, Ohio 43044. This facility serves three counties: Union, Champaign, and Madison. The jail can hold inmates at minimum to maximum security levels.

Scott Springhetti is the Executive Jail Director. You can email him at sspringhetti@tricojl.com. Luke Mckee serves as Assistant Jail Director. The jail phone number is 937-834-5000. Fax is 937-834-9975. Because the jail is shared, Union County booking releases may appear alongside records from Champaign and Madison Counties.

All police departments and sheriff's offices in the three counties transfer their arrestees to this jail. That means if someone is arrested by the Marysville Police, the Union County Sheriff, or any other local agency, they end up at the same place in Mechanicsburg.

How to Search Union County Booking Releases

The Tri-County Regional Jail website is the main resource for booking releases. The site provides info about the jail's policies, visitation, and inmate services. Check the website for an inmate roster that lists people currently held at the facility.

The roster shows inmates in alphabetical order by last name. Each entry includes the inmate's name, mugshot, arrest date, booking number, charges, bond amount, and next court date. This is the fastest way to see if someone is currently in custody at the regional jail.

You can also call the jail at 937-834-5000. Give them the person's name and they can confirm whether they are being held. Staff can share basic booking info, bond amounts, and upcoming court dates. Phone inquiries are handled during regular business hours.

The Union County Sheriff's Office in Marysville can help with records requests too. Contact them for questions about arrests made by county deputies. They work closely with the regional jail and can point you in the right direction if you are having trouble finding records.

What Union County Booking Records Include

A Union County booking release record from the Tri-County Regional Jail will show the inmate's full name, mugshot, and date of birth. You will also find the booking number, arrest date, charges, and the bond amount set by the court. The next court date is listed when available.

Release records document when and how someone left the facility. Types of release include posting bond, being released on recognizance, serving a full sentence, or being transferred to another facility. Each release type is noted in the record.

Keep in mind that the roster shows people from all three counties served by the jail. If you are looking specifically for Union County arrests, you may need to filter through records from Champaign and Madison County as well. The arresting agency field helps you figure out which county handled the case.

Visitation at Tri-County Regional Jail

The Tri-County Regional Jail uses video visitation. Visits happen through a recording monitor, either at an onsite terminal in the jail or from your home device like a smartphone or laptop. You must schedule your visit at least 24 hours in advance.

Visiting hours run daily from 7 AM to 10 PM. There is a limit on how many visits you can have per week, so plan ahead. The jail staff can tell you the current limit and help you set up your first visit. Call 937-834-5000 for more details on the process.

Sending Money to Inmates

You can add money to an inmate's commissary account at the Tri-County Regional Jail. There are three ways to do it. First, use the kiosk in the jail lobby if you are visiting in person. Second, go online through the Access Corrections website. Third, call 866-345-1884 to make a deposit by phone.

You will need the inmate's full name and ID number to make a deposit. The money goes into a trust account that the inmate can use for commissary purchases, phone calls, and other approved items. There may be fees for electronic deposits, so ask about costs before you send money.

Ohio Public Records Law

Booking releases are public records under ORC 149.43. Anyone can request these records without giving a reason. The jail or sheriff's office must respond within a reasonable time. You can ask in person, by phone, or in writing.

Chapter 341 of the Ohio Revised Code covers jail operations. It requires that a register be kept with each inmate's name, booking date, reason for commitment, and release date and manner. This register is the legal basis for booking release records in Union County.

At the state level, ORC 5120.21 governs what the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction can share. While full inmate records are restricted, the name, convictions, supervision status, and disciplinary history can still be disclosed.

Victim Notification

Crime victims can track inmates through VINE. This free service covers jails across Ohio, including the Tri-County Regional Jail. Search by name or offender ID and sign up for alerts when an inmate is released, transferred, or has a change in custody status. Call 877-654-8463 or register online.

ORC 2930.16 requires that custodial agencies notify victims before an inmate is released or goes to a parole hearing. For serious crimes, Roberta's Law makes these notifications automatic. You do not have to request them for murders, aggravated murders, or first through third degree felonies.

Union County Most Wanted

The Union County Sheriff's Office maintains a most wanted list. This list features fugitives with outstanding warrants. Entries include photos, identifying features, last known addresses, and the charges against them. If you see someone on the list, contact the sheriff's office right away. Do not try to approach or detain anyone yourself.

Most wanted lists are a useful resource when paired with booking release data. If someone on the list gets caught, they will show up in the Tri-County Regional Jail's booking records. Checking both sources gives you a fuller picture of who is in custody and who is still being sought.

Ohio Statewide Resources

If someone has been transferred from the Tri-County Regional Jail to state prison, search the Ohio DRC Offender Search. This tool covers inmates in the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction system, including those on parole or post-release control.

The ODRC website has info on parole rules under Chapter 2967, reentry programs, and facility locations. These resources pick up where Union County booking releases leave off.
